EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) for Varicose Veins
A thin laser fibre closes the faulty vein from the inside. Done with the leg numbed while you stay awake, and you go home the same day.
Varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency
Aching, swollen, bulging leg veins. Treated with laser ablation or surgery or using Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy.
The veins in your legs carry blood back up to your heart. Small valves inside them stop the blood falling back down. When these valves stop working, blood pools in the lower leg. Over time this shows as swelling, aching and the twisted veins you can see under the skin.
Varicose veins are one of the most common reasons patients come to see Dr. Sajjad. Many have lived with heavy, aching legs for years, thinking nothing can be done. In most cases a great deal can be done, often as a simple day treatment.
Day of treatment: you can walk straight away, and walking is encouraged.
First week: some bruising and tightness is normal. Simple pain medicine is enough. You wear a support stocking as advised.
One to two weeks: most people are back to normal daily life and office work.
Heavy physical work may need a little longer. You will be given a clear plan.
There is very little pain. The leg is numbed first, so during the treatment you feel pressure more than pain. Afterwards there may be mild soreness and bruising for a few days, managed with simple pain medicine.
The treated vein is sealed or removed for good. New veins can sometimes appear over the years, but a good result usually lasts a long time. Wearing support stockings when advised and staying active both help.
Foam sclerotherapy closes a faulty vein with an injection of medical foam, guided by an ultrasound scan, rather than a laser fibre. It is done without any cut and suits smaller or more winding veins. Dr. Sajjad will tell you whether foam, laser or surgery fits your veins best.
The cost depends on how many veins are involved and whether EVLA, foam sclerotherapy or surgery is used. Fees are explained openly before treatment, with no hidden charges. Please feel free to ask.
